The rains came all week long, but the Ashby A’s worked all afternoon to get their field ready to host a Resorter’s West game against Osakis last Friday the 15th. The weather was perfect at game time, however there was a very small crowd that attended. The A’s did not disappoint this dedicated fan base! The pitching was stellar and the bats finally woke up leading to the first win of the season by a final score of 5-1. The A’s led the whole way. Tyson Langlie had 4 RBI on 2 doubles. Tanner Langlie, Blake Ohren, and Kyle Rylander also added 2 hits apiece. Jeremy Quernemoen had the other A’s hit. Jordan Lillemon, Andrew Risbrudt, and Chris Rylander again pitched gems for the squad.
The rains came again, and washed out the A’s game against Swanville, which was scheduled for Saturday the 16th. Ashby’s next game was at Urbank this last Friday night. The weather was again perfect for a Friday night ballgame and the fans got to watch a good one. The score went back and forth all night. Ashby made a few errors, but managed to stop the bleeding every time the game seemed to get out of hand. Then the A’s would pick it up in their half-inning at the plate and earn back their blunders. After looking at the book at the end of the game, the Bombers did not have an earned run. Urbank made a few mistakes of their own in the field. After an exciting 8th and 9th inning, the A’s ended up one run short of extending the game with the score board showing Urbank 7 and Ashby 6. The loss was the second of the season for the A’s, but the play, was overall impressive. Besides the errors that led to runs, the A’s were able to make the big plays to stop the landslides just in time. The bats would then make up for their blunders keeping them in the game and exchanging for the lead. Jordan Lillemon and Chris Rylander threw first, but Andrew Risbrudt came in and really kept the team in the game.
Just over 36 hours later, the A’s travelled to Carlos to take on the Cougars. It rained the entire game and the team still seemed to be worn out from their hard fought battle the Friday before. Sore arms, first time pitchers, and the lack of energy was evident, as the A’s lost 12-1. A few errors plagued the team again, but the wet conditions could be blamed for a majority of them. The bats were dead, and Tony Ohren picked up the only solid hit for the club.
The A’s next game is this coming Friday May 29th, in Ashby against the Millerville Millers. Last year, these two teams played 3 different times, brought huge crowds, and fun-to-watch, close games every time. Friday’s game has a scheduled first pitch at 7:30 PM at the Chuck Anderson Sports Complex. There will be a rematch only 2 days later in Millerville Sunday afternoon. If you haven’t been to a game yet, come watch one under the lights on Friday night! It should be a good one!
